Book a "girls just wanna have fun" kind of hotel: Picking a place to stay in Sonoma County can be hard - there are almost too many great places to choose from. The retro-chic Sandman Inn in Santa Rosa is a budget-friendly option with a heated pool and hot tub, plus $10 canned rosé from local winemaker West & Wilder. Along with mid-century modern mecca The Astro Motel, it's a popular pick among city girls and Instagram influencers. Another cool destination is Boon Hotel & Spa in Guerneville (pictured) with suites for groups of friends and a happy hour by the pool. Many local hotels offer special girls getaway packages, including the Hyatt Regency Sonoma Wine Country. For a more pampered experience, check into a local spa-hotel.

Plan your wine tasting experience: The majority of wineries in Sonoma County are small, family-owned establishments that don’t necessarily have the capacity to host more than a few people at a time. So plan ahead and make reservations, or add some of the larger wineries to your trip itinerary, like Francis Ford Coppola Winery in Geyserville (make reservations to sip the winery's Sofia rosé poolside with your friends). ...But don't get too itinerary-obsessed: While it's good to make some plans ahead of your trip, don't make a strict itinerary like Amy Poehler's character, leaving no time to linger at each winery and no room for improvisation. Winery-hop safely: If you don't have a designated driver in your group, hire a shuttle service like Pure Luxury. In addition to driving guests to destinations of their choice, the shuttle service also organizes tours, like "Pure Fun" from Matanzas Creek Winery to Kendall Jackson to the Murphy-Goode Tasting Room in downtown Healdsburg. Two words - wine slushy: Sample wine in a slightly different form with a frosé (frozen rosé) or wine slushy. At Château Diana in Healdsburg you can enjoy slushified versions of wine, including their popular frosé, on a sun-dappled patio overlooking vineyards. Go afternoon tasting: Zin-lovers should make their way to Armida Winery on Westside Road for some PoiZin and a whole lot of fun. If you're looking for good spots for a girlfriends' photo op, we've lined up some of the most Instagrammable wineries in Sonoma County, including Kendall-Jackson Wine Estate and Gardens in Santa Rosa. DeLoach Vineyards in Santa Rosa (pictured) is a good place to win(e)d down; their wine is featured in "Wine Country" the movie.

Have tapas for dinner and say hello to the original "Paella-guy:" In "Wine Country," actor Jason Schwartzman plays a paella-making character loosely based on Gerard Nebesky, Sonoma County "Paella-guy" and restaurateur. Nebesky, who organized Poehler and co.'s Wine Country birthday trip, has been friends with actor and comedian Rachel Dratch for more than a decade (Dratch stars in the movie). While Nebesky may not share a lot of similarities with his Hollywood counterpart, he does serve fantastic paella and tapas at his Santa Rosa restaurant, Gerard's Paella y Tapas. Share a selection of small plates, seafood paella and pitchers of sangria.

Do after dinner drinks like a local: Considering its small size, downtown Santa Rosa serves up a surprisingly wide variety of creatively crafted cocktails. Find some of the best ones at Perch & Plow, overlooking the courthouse square (pictured), or opt for bubbles and more photo ops at new and hip The Jade Room. Craving a margarita? Head to La Rosa Tequileria & Grille; they have 12 different kinds (La Diabla, with lime, strawberry, or mango, and muddled jalapeño peppers, is a favorite).
