Hamburgers, steam-table Thai, more hamburgers. Can we discuss the perisistent misuse of the word “great”? The only thing worse are the clickbait heads telling you “These are the 15 steam-table Thai diners in Cloverdale you’ve got to try NOW!”
its lunch time now, did you decide yet ?
I actually generate almost $20,000-$21,000 monthly via internet. I lost my job after doing work for the same organization for years, I wanted reliable income. I was not researching for the “get rich overnight” home programs as you can see online. Those are usually mlm programs or stuff in which you need to sell to your friends and relatives. The most interesting part of working via internet is that I am always home with the kids and also I easily go out on family vacation for a long time. Honestly,it is easier than you would think. I got the instructions kit and within four weeks I started making over $4,000 a month. You don’t have to be technical, but you should know how to use the internet. If you can fill up forms and surf web sites, you can do it easily, You don’t need to sell anything at all. It is as simple as being on any social media site. Here’s what I do https://yx.si/mxb

This is great news not only for seniors but also for restaurants. This should not be a surprise since getting vaxxed is the key to taking off our masks and getting back to normal. Many thanks to President Trump and big pharma for the vaccines!
#VaxInMaskOff
Trump came up with the nerdy “Warp Speed” name. The rest was Pelosi, McConnell and Schumer.
President Trump??
Trump admin in October promised 100 million doses by year-end, and shipped less than 3.
President Biden promised 100 million in 100 days, and is on track to reach 200 million.
How about normal style food. It does not exist anymore. What a concept.
These jobs should be given to the homeless and help them get back on their feet
I hate SJWs & what they did to Ms. Berstein. SJWs are horrible
You must add Tortilla Real in Petaluma to your list. This is a new restaurant—a real gem.
Cascabel in MV has great carnitas tacos, and their taquitos are awesome, too! Happy hour can be a good full meal!
Moose Lodge!
It pops up just anywhere and any time, in Sebastopol?
How can you leave out Teuscher? Puts the rest of the American crap to shame.
I hope the food and service is going to be better than his last two Sonoma County ventures!
Most of those menu items are horrible when delivered!
Guy should focus on things that handle delivery well..
Guy, give up the recipe for cream of garlic soup a la Johnny Garlic’s! It was so good it deserves to be part of the public domain.
Why two such well-funded enterprises get over-the-top advertising gratis, I don’t know. Make them buy ad space.
So, where are “working people” going to eat?
My autistic sons 18th bday on March 21st. Would be amazing experience for him to have this. Our daughter met Mr. Fieri once and watches all his shows so the house all admires him. This would be epic. Who will deliver to Rohnert Park???
Also missed Khoom Lanna, just off Railroad Square. After my trip to Thailand, and falling hard for Northern Thai (Lanna) cuisine, this restaurant has become my go to—khao soi’s not on their menu, but they have no problem with my ordering it, and it’s always delicious. Their spinach wraps though—one of the very best dishes I’ve ever eaten!
You mean like placing their personal labels on the bottles?
Well, she’s not visiting enough to tell if she’s in Napa Co or Sonoma Co.
Hi, you missed one big one- Tomi Thai in Windsor. Love Thai food and have been to dozens of incredible Thai restaurants. Tomi Thai’s curry is amazing!
Last time I checked Forestville isn’t in Sonoma…Hate when things are labeled as Sonoma and give 0 credit to the small town or city it actually exists in. In your other articles you add “county” to the headline which is much more appreciated!
Sonoma’s generally shorthand for the western wine country, not inclusive of Napa. Who cares? Do southern Californians get incensed when we say “Oh you’re from LA” when they’re really from Santa Monica?
People from small towns care. Ever been to Forestville? Do you even know where it is? Know how their local economy is doing normally vs Covid times? Any shout out they can get due to a headline in an article means more tourism means they aren’t struggling as much as normal. Sonoma wineries have been getting recognition all over for decades. Comparing Santa Monica and LA with populations of 90k+ is extraneous as the tiny town in question has a measly population of ~4k.
Well, good point. Actually I was born in Marin and have lived in Santa Rosa for 30 years. I do in fact know where Forestville is and have been there many a time.
Who?
Love seeing this! I was the next person–there were only 5 of us living there full time at the start–living with Lou and all. I regret that in my attempt to “relocate” a fascinating guy named Nevada (who could deal cards with his feet with his BOOTS ON) I ended up letting the Angels know about our little haven. I lived a winter there, so lush, so wet that nothing you ever washed got dry….Miss it. And now it seems gone forever, burned down to the ground.
It is classic for me that although I later visited Ramon Sender and he apparently refers to me in his book about Morning Star, being a 17 year-old “brown” girl, I was
invisible–despite being recognized by Lou as one of their founders. Lou
always remembered me, which was nice. It is also interesting that they
minimally mentioned his young teenage Black wife and baby–and his daughter, who I recall well. It took me years to realize that hippies were not racist, per se, I just did not exist.
Lou used to get up in the mornings and sing “Prahna Yama Mama” on his way to do his yoga. I did yoga, too, as several folks did. He was a truly good hearted man.
The reason Gottlieb deeded his land to God was so that the courts would have to say that “God does not exist.”
If I was 20 yrs younger I would move to Ireland I am a hard working WHITE MALE and have employed many hispanics and rented to many minorities,,,I am sick and tired of the reverse racism on whites,,,,,,I would move to Ireland Why ?????? 94% WHITE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No racism there
The part about Ms.De La Cruz answering all the questions on her cell phone baffles me. There are hundreds of SoCo employees across county departments who are paid bi-lingual premiums.
Her answer for getting rid of imaginary systemic racism against one group is to institute actual systemic racism against another all the while collecting a fat pay check even from taxpayers who will be victimized due to the fact that they don’t qualify to be in the, “People of Color Club”. Even though I qualify as a POC I don’t care for the term and believe it is used to unite disparate groups into one cohesive Democrat voting block.
those scientists are working on a mRNA to make us all the same

WELCOME TO THE FUTURE IT’S THE BRAVE NEW WORLD
I am afraid that there is a certain class of
race-problem solvers who don’t want the patient to get well, because as long as
the disease holds out they have not only an easy means of making a living, but
also an easy medium through which to make themselves prominent before the
public
Racism needs to be addressed wherever it exists, but allowing economic outcomes on average to be how we check for racism is not quite right. How we to account for poverty among white people? Lazy? Shiftless? If we all sent Oprah Winfrey X dollars, so that Blacks became on average equal to Whites, would that be the equity you’re striving for?
Reading these comments, one can see De La Cruz has a challenging, and necessary job ahead of her! Best of luck!
Agreed!
Why is it necessary?
De La Cruz is a gift to our Community in terms of equity, for our Latino population. However, I’m sure she would advocate for any group of under-served residents, regardless of color or status. I do not agree with the county deciding to open an office of equity, however bringing De La Cruz out of the shadows and into the mainstream, improving our relationships with residents across the spectrum, I cannot see how De La Cruz would do anything but contribute to our community in significantly positive ways.
It seems odd to say that De La Cruz was in any way in “the shadows” prior to getting the Equity job.
You just want to argue? Fine. She was practically invisible under Goldstein, except for the SRCS BOE. A couple of big local news articles about her, some compassionate personal contact definitely increased her visibility, imo. Which is a good thing
(And everything I post is “IMO”).
“Long before the Office of Equity was founded, De La Cruz, Espinoza, and countless others were working to root out racial inequities and unjust policies in county government. But much of that work was extra — “on top of their normal jobs,” says Gore, resulting in frustration, demoralization and exhaustion.”
From the article… . Are you saying that unless you are employed at something you are working “in the shadows”? By that standard, almost everyone interested in politics is “working in the shadows, and that’s an odd way to talk; it’s not as if she was undercover… .
As the mainstream media insist, we are not supposed to recognize gender. If we’re not supposed to recognize gender, why then are we recognizing race?
“…not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” – MLK

Too bad too many choose to ignore those immortal words.
Totally agree! So sad how important a person’s color has become and not their character.
That’s one pupusa gorda! We need some Arepas too.
My Sonoma County Regional Park membership is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. Have given several memberships to members of my family too. Great appreciated gifts!
Cape Fear in Duncan’s Mills has great food & the BEST carrot cake I have ever tasted. Worth the drive just for a slice!
Went to Doran Beach this afternoon. Love it there. If you buy a park membership you can park for free while supporting our great parks! Win-Win!
So, the PD is re-running old stories now. Slow news day or laziness?
Looks like topic is still interesting based on the posts, negative nelly.
just because your dog fits in a shopping cart, doesn’t mean you need to bring him in the store with you. There is a bias toward people who have small dogs. Establishments allow them everywhere, or so it seems.
My local Safeway lets people bring in big dogs, too. Never had a problem with the dogs. Occasionally people are a little snappy.

not that brain dead guy that was there 2 years ago when this article was first broadcast
what ever happens to fisheggz is it cletus now lol same dood
Obsessed much? That guy is so in your head.
why does your profile say @fisheggz
What a nightmare idea, it is a bad as take your dog grocery shopping. What next, take your dog to the ER with you? I don’t want to see other peoples dogs anywhere, keep them at home, in your yard, there are really people who do NOT want to see your dogs being expected to be people, face reality, they are dogs.
Actually, dogs in the ER would be comforting and entertaining. that’s why many old folks facilities have dogs.
It’s in there this year. I guess these articles get recycled.
The Chicago Dog doesn’t have variations. It is a variation–of a hot dog.
Zasu and Jimtown are out of business, both pre-pandemic.
YAY, Guy! Doing the right thing for all the right reasons. Thank You!

Very disappointed with Genochios’ crab sandwich costing over $17. Nothing like you show in the photo; a fraction of the crab you see in the photo.
101 Thai Way in Cloverdale is the bomb diggity.
Sugo Trattoria in Petaluma. A strong staple with the best bruschetta in Sonoma county.
Heather Irwin may be the only restaurant reviewer in the country who can’t be bothered to provide addresses. Even a street name would help.
Wow! You just lost a lot of
credibility not having Pizzaleah in Windsor on this list.
Pizza Gourmet, Santa Rosa. Great crust!
Pizza Leah in Windsor should definitely be on the list. We love Campo Fina and Diavola too, but it’s a travesty you didn’t include the local and award winning Pizza Lead.
Huria’s in Bodega Bay — the best!
Not mentioned, but PizzaLeah in Windsor is awesome!!
Surprised not to see Sweet T’s in Windsor in your article on patio dining. Any reason?
The Jenner Inn has rooms that are right on the water too. It’s quite lovely and the owners are wonderful.
Avoid Fishetarian unless you want to wait forever for mediocre food.
Definitions – EQUALITY – treating everyone the same with access to the same opportunities. EQUITY – treating people differently, depending on their race. RACISM – treating people differently because of their race. ” I look to the day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” MLK
I guess they’re not showing all of the hotels, motels that are now filled with homeless
What a dream job! Guilt stricken gringos pay you six figures and publicly KYA. In return, you get to tell them how deeply racist they are for not appointing, hiring, advancing your own gente based on ethnicity rather than qualification.
Meanwhile, all involved ignore the elephant in the room: the complete dominance of latinos in the local, state, and national business of importation, wholesaling, and distribution of fentanyl, heroin, meth, and coke.
Si Se puede!
Thank you.
I remember KYA 1260 on the am dial! KPLS, too!
Sugo Trattoria in Petaluma. Nice outdoor patio and amazing Bruschetta. This longtime staple of Petaluma always seems to get forgotten about when it comes to local media.
“not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
Why does this woman and so many other deranged lefties ignore MLK’s immortal words?
This woman is dangerous as is anyone who drinks the “equality of outcome” Kool-aid. You cannot fight racism with more racism, and you certainly cannot do it with Marxism. There already is equal opportunity for all, and there is no systemic or institutional racism. Outcomes are the result of personal responsibility and one’s own decision making, and that is how it should always be. Let that be the guide for people to better themselves and not woke BS that divides and harms.
The reality is that it’s a combination of factors. Equality of opportunity plus equality of effort should equal equality of outcome.
Caucasian, Adult, male need not apply.
The woke marxists March on.
It seems like there might be a loophole for infantile Caucasian males… .
Why don’t you ever mention the darling ally way at La Gare? It is so lovely and the food is always delicious. We have eaten outside there a couple times and it will always be my first choice.
Thanks for the suggestion Stacy!
is this a reprint of an old article? comments are from some time ago.
This article was updated today.
Until they get serious about breaking up the overcrowded housing that speeds thwe pandemic, I’m not going to any food truck in Roselandia. Be serious! Yo0ur chances of getting infected there are ten times what they would be elsewhere.
Great work, Heather. And if you haven’t tried the Dungeness Crab Nachos at Fisherman’s Cove, you may want to… 😉
I look forward to trying these featured chocolates! However, I would have loved to read about chocolate pairings with sparkling wines.
Ricky’s Eastbound has their “Chuckwagon” in front of the restaurant every Friday and Saturday for lunch (11:30am-2:00pm)!
Does the health department regularly inspect these trucks and their operator’s food safety practices?
All good for outdoors but all these heaters may cause a fire hazzard ! hope they got fire extinguishers nearby
What a joke. The maskless element of outdoor eating is the BIG risk. Add plastic-sealed, trapped air (as in non-circulating) and you’re just asking for the Covid bummers:
-Impotence
-Loss of smell
-Loss of taste
-$100,000 hospital bill
-Brain fuzz
-Limited breathing capacity
-Potential loss of work.
Back patio at Charlie’s is open on 3 sides, carpeted, covered and heated!
This is NOT ‘outdoor dining’ and the fact that the Press Democrat promotes it as such is irresponsible. The fact that this article has comments from TWO MONTHS AGO also means they are recycling old news — WITHOUT correction. Sad.
Amusing. Bern is after all SoCo’s favorite socialist.
I’m curious if that has any correlation to our massive pension liability problem…
How is Ozzies not on here. They are the best burgers in the county by far. And the best priced. And your burger come with fries, which for some reason is unheard of at other burger joints. $15+ for a burger and fries is outrageous. You can get that and a shake at Ozzies for that price
Ozzies is by far the best, and most reasonable priced burger joint in Sonoma County. Great shakes with lots of flavors too! $9-$12 for a burger with fries! Add a large shake, still under $20.

There is actually no such thing as an; “indoor plant”. Plants grow OUTDOORS unless ‘conditioned’ to tolerate appropriate indoor circumstances. It’s almost always a compromise between what the plant can tolerate and what their ‘custodian’ can duplicate from the, usually tropical, origins of the species.

Great story wrong address!
Per an article in the Press Democrat on January 11, 2021, Parish Cafe is not reopening, both sites are closed, the owners are leaving California.
https://www.pressdemocrat.com/article/news/closed-restaurants-stacking-up-in-healdsburg-as-buyers-market-attracts-i/
Hi ER. As the owner of The Parish Café I can assure you that our Healdsburg location is indeed going to reopen as soon as the current SIP orders banning outdoor dining are lifted. Though it’s true that we have the business listed for sale it is our hopes that the brand continues on for years to come.
-R.L.
We’re rooting hard for you and all the other restaurants, Rob. The closing of outdoor dining is ridiculous.
Most excellent!! I want you to reopen, just that I had seen that article a few days before this article so was confused. So thank you for clearing that up!!
I came to SoCo in the 1980’s and loved it. Can’t wait to retire and leave.
Ssssh don’t tell anyone.
Santa Rosa
Glad they turned a blind eye to the throngs of homeless and gang members terrorizing the city
Best places to get pancakes during to go only lockdown? Geez why bother?
PLEASE show us what that crepe pic, with the berries and ice cream, actually looks like after a 20 min ride home on our pothole filled roads!
And also describe in detail how soggy those hashbrowns got after being sealed up in a plastic or styrofoam box.
Breakfast to go? What the literal F?
When I was a teenager, I said I was never going back to this hick town (Healdsburg) and I left for college. After moving to 9 different places with my husband and 3 children, I came to Sonoma County on a foggy February afternoon and wondered why I had thought it such a terrible place! I’ve lived here for nearly 78 years (not counting the time we were moving around) and the only way I’m leaving Sonoma County is feet first. My deep passion and love for this county is unbounded.
Santa Rosa is overrated
Love this but if anyone has a recipe or source for IHOPs old school Cream of Wheat pancakes let me know!
Different but also interesting, beneath Lake Berryessa, as documented by the photographers, Dorthea Lange and Perkle Jones, is what would, were it drained, be a ghost town. The town was called Montecello and existed until 1956. The people and at least 300 graves were moved.
Beautiful home but isn’t proximity to vineyard crop dusting a concern?
Thank you to all the people who do so much for us. They can be taken for granted by us and be under appreciated…. But they are the folks that keep our society running smoothly. So again, THANK YOU! Take care and stay well!
Important article, much more important than all the corrupt political news in our American papers and internet. There, only the takers, this article, only the givers. Thank you.
Careful using “county” and “workers” in the same sentence. People will assume Sonoma County government employees actually work…
VERY helpful for us stuck in hotels this Xmas – Thx, Heather!
Too bad none offer single plates for one! Lots of us out here, sheltered in place, and would love a nice dinner.
I discovered on Thanksgiving that Pacific Market in Sebastopol offered single-serving sugar-glazed ham and Diestal Turkey dinners, including with a good selection of side dishes. Every selection and side had clean, interesting “homemade” flavors. When reheated as per their instruction, the Diestel Turkey was the most succulent I have ever had. The mashed potatoes had small chunks of butter. I could go on but you get the idea. Full details are on their website. One must pre-order.
Any suggestions for Sebastopol?
Bless you, Mr. Fieri. Well done!
Mike Verbish is full of it. They own a tiny parcel on the east side of the creek, everything else around is owned by state of CA or USA. I’ll be tromping right on through, and if he wants to point a rifle at me, he’ll be the one sleeping in the county jail that evening.
Well done Guy!
I will drive to Petaluma for Sol Food, the best!
Editors, If, as leaders in Sonoma food culture, you have any guts (pardon the pun NOT!), may I recommend a series on sustainable meat consumption devoted to offal. I suggest an introductory article for the omnivore wishing to reduce envt. impact by, when eating meat, commit to choosing the throwaway tidbits. For the article devoted to lengua and cabeza, you will fail if you don’t include the cabeza enchilada with red sauce from Pepe’s on Sebastopol Ave SR. The red sauce with the choice of pepper used and any other surprise spice is worth a trip alone. Without exaggerating, my most accurate description of Pepe’s cabeza enchilada is “glorious”. Also try, El Grand Taco and Sonoma Eats in the Springs north west of Sonoma and Rancho Market on Arnold Ave for lengua and cabeza tacos. I suppose you should include buche (pork) with the lengua and cabeza article (Also at El Gran Taco). The next article could focus on Vietnamese Pho with its naughty bits (Pho Vietnam on Stony Pt and its lovely tendons and excellent broth). And then there’s the delis and charcuteries – head cheese, blood sausage, pate, etc. And finally, please please tell me where to find Sweetbreads Lyonnaise and Hagis.
Sounds awesome! But a $1100 minimum though? ☹️
It’s not that “the county’s new stay-home order will be another blow to local businesses” it’s that the necessity of protecting people from this deadly virus is a blow to local businesses. I don’t know what motivates you, Santa Rosa schools who seem desperate to pretend like this isn’t happening and local businesses who seem to think their need for money is more important than people’s lives to describe what’s happening as if the government is doing something to you rather than the government codifying what you should already be doing and if this wasn’t an issue haven’t been doing, to everyone’s detriment. In other words it’s local businesses own fault there has to be a shut down order because you didn’t stay home, didn’t shut down and didn’t care for others.
Really Lew? A virus issued a SIP order?
Basically what you’re implying (though disingenuously) is that there is some *necessary* connection between whatever data you are receiving regarding “cv-19” and the county’s decision. I don’t really think you think that, that would be impossibly childish. I think what you’re saying is that the benefits of the SIP order outweigh the cost of a non-order… But you seem to be arguing in bath faith to preserve your silly causal argument, because if you used a reasonable premise like the one I suggested, you would actually have to provide supporting data, like every risk assessor has always done…
How many studies have you read on the effects of poverty, homeless, stress, allostatic overload on human health? Is mental health no longer intrinsic to human health?
Are you going to tell me it is a literal *logical impossibility* that the “cure” is more damaging than the disease? Maybe you think the burden of proof is on me, to prove that a virus with a incredibly low fatality rate is less deadly than lack of food, clothes and shelter (OK BOOMER)
Portfolio looking pretty good bud? You enjoying your rampant and destructive asset inflation at the expense of us young people? Everyone ELSE is greedy and selfish huh? When was the last time your were homeless or didnt know where your next meal was coming from chief? When was the last time a “concerned” white person snitched on you over nothing and you got f**ked?
You sound affluent, arrogant, condescending, ill-informed and woefully out-of-touch (or just maliciously ignorant). Are you by chance a white boomer liberal?
Signed,
A real *Blackman* and actual SoCo worthy
Sit down son.
(P.S. You none of this BS is law right (do you know how laws in this country work?) Better get working that that so y’all cowards can call men with guns and the full force of YOUR government to destroy us poor people. Until, then you think real n*ggas like me are gonna lie down for people like you? Hilarious and classic)
Thanks for your note. We understand that this particular sentence can be misread. Indeed, it is not the stay-home order as such that harms businesses, but the rapid rise in coronavirus cases and the consequences this has on our society and economy. We have updated the article to prevent misinterpretation. All the best, Sofia Englund (Digital Editor)
Lol. You mods are gonna be keeping your jobs at least. Thanks for keeping these boards safe from any thought crimes. Heroes.
I’d like to give a shout out to Don Julio’s, 217 Southwest Blvd, Rohnert Park, CA 94928. If you haven’t tried their Salvadorian al pastor, you should. It is very tasty.
My favorite Al Pastor taco is at the Guernville taco Truck. YUMMMMMY!
I agree with slide #2 being on the list. Not mentioned, Taqueria Guadalajara in Healdsburg. South of town sorta across the street from the McDonalds.
Ambrosia in P-town.
Excellent writing, Heather. Brava.
Hurry folks, before Mase locks them all down….
Garlock’s has been at the top of our list for years!
Still miss the Chez Peyo Chicken Gravenstein – would love to see that recipe
Would be helpful if your photos in the photo gallery had captions.
Yes, if there are sides up it becomes an indoor space. Please look into who really has outdoor dinning with 3 or 4 sides of the tent open and heaters. Right now driving around I see tents with the sides closed, patios with plastic walls. No way is this safe for air circulation. We are making notes so we do not plan on going to those places. Plus the county should be inspecting them and telling them that the requirement is that 3 sides must be open.
Umbrellas or awnings with heaters is fine, that still allows outdoor air flow, but enclosing the sides defeats the purpose of being outdoors. The point is to disperse any COVID-19 droplets with outside air flow, the more you restrict air flow, the greater your risk of being infected. Same for tables being too close together, even outdoors, you increase your risk.
I wish you would say “Sonoma County” when referring to restaurants in Sonoma County.
Exactly right, like is it so difficult to correctly identify, staff writer, the area for these restaurants and be specific and say “Sonoma County”, vs. Sonoma?
When I read the Subject header, the first thing I instantly thought of was of the takeout places being mentioned in the TOWN OF SONOMA as that’s how it reads, in “Sonoma”, which according to my map from up here near Windsor is a TOWN in itself just south of Glen Ellen, no? It is a pet peeve of mine when someone is referring to something in Sonoma County, yet just says or writes “Sonoma”, misleading and confusing, just sayin’, when it pertains to a COUNTY.
Good one Bubs.
your link for ‘crumbhither’ takes you to Marla Bakery web site.
Picture #7 (Philly sandwich) is from which restaurant? Does not say on caption like the others.
Zoftig
Post does not belong here.
I wish there was a way to block this Khadijah’s posts which don’t belong in the voluminous amount of times “it” posts. Sick of seeing these BS postings.
Upper right, under downward arrow is “Report,” then “block.” Or minus sign is just “block.”
If you listens to experts, any outdoor tent with sides are not safe. If you really need to eat out instead of take out, cress warmly and go to a completely open, properly distanced outdoor dining area. So many of these look dangerous.
Search “College Convectionista” Annamaria Morales on Google or Facebook. She also makes handmade pies (pre-order/delivery only). Order quickly! She sells local pies raising money to go to UC Berkeley…these pies help her with costs each semester.
How about Ingram’s Chili Bowl recipe?
I’ll see what I can do. I will be adding a Sonoma Vintage Recipes section to my personal web site soon.
Yes!!! A thousand percent. The whole team I work with still misses this Chili and would love the true recipe!!! I found John Ash version of it but even they acknowledge it’s not the authentic Ingram’s recipe!!!
This is irresponsible reporting. You can order take out, you can cook at home, but these tents are not safe, not as safe as you could be.
Could not agree more on how irresponsible this is! Yes, we need to support local business, but not at the cost of our health. Unless two walls of these tents are open and ventilated, they are just as bad as being inside…This article should be removed or at least edited to push the public towards take out. Stories like this push the public into a false sense of security. We will never get out of this pandemic if people continue to be out and eating in public….
one wall is too much!!
Excellent reminder! Shop local for the holidays (trust me, Mr Bezos has enough $$$). Support your neighbors, those people that make Sonoma County the best place to live.
I commit to buying each and every gift LOCALLY and in person (with face mask of course!) this year and in the future. Also will include the business card w/present to both supply the maker’s info for background and to inspire future purchases.
Thx for reminding me with this helpful and informative article.
Win – win for everyone!
Kokomo, Hook and Ladder, and Balletto have very nice outdoor tastings too.

I am so tired of reading about greedy people buying more. They are all the same: nothing is ever enough. Shame on them. Restaurants that charge $300 a plate are vain and greedy. We do not need that.

well, tell you what, the vast majority of comments point to an unwillingness of many to see themselves as complicit in a racist system — and their ensuing fragility on the subject.
Democrats have controlled the state legislature since 1996. Why have they allowed this systemic racism to persist since then? They must be racist by default because they describe the systemic racism yet do nothing about it.
If you can’t craft legislation to end systemic racism, does it then not actually exist?
If you can, then why hasn’t it happened? Democrats have complete control of the state legislature.
On June 3rd of this year, I received a letter from Socorro Shiels, Superintendent of the SVUSD. She wrote, “Racism…is systemic….true even in our Valley….and this includes our public school system. We must answer the call…to undo these systems.”
So we are now 4 months down the road from the admission that she runs a racist school district and still waiting for the changes to end the policies. She has been the superintendent since May of 2018.
To admit the system she runs is racist and to not provide a solution is unacceptable.

I keep hearing “systemic racism” from the left, and yet no one can point to any examples of it when confronted. Where are the racist laws, rules, protocols, agencies, departments, or officials that are discriminating against and/or oppressing people of color? The left also keeps claiming that America is so racist, and yet a black man was recently elected President of the United States TWICE by a majority of white people.
This is what people mean when they say that you are entitled to your own opinions, not your own facts. Both of your statements are completely false.
Firstly, Obama did not win a majority of white voters in 2008 OR 2012. I don’t know if someone told you that or you just made it up, either way it’s wrong.
Secondly, systemic racism is very widespread in America, it is just less obvious than it was 50 years ago. Just because you don’t wish to inform yourself about systemic racism, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist. There are many, many examples of systemic racism in policing, which is where perhaps the most apparent and blatant forms of systemic racism appear. This article points out an example of it in San Francisco’s police force (although much worse examples can be found in other parts of the country): https://www.aclu.org/news/criminal-law-reform/racist-drug-laws-lead-to-racist-enforcement-in-cities-across-the-country/
Also, how can systemic racism be “very widespread” while also being “less obvious?” That kinda seems impossible.
Oh, please. You cite an ACLU article to support the existence of systemic racism? That’s like citing Al Sharpton or Nikole Hannah-Jones, for goodness sake. You’re going to need a lot more credible source than that. The fact that you even try to use that citation just shows that you’re grasping for anything.
Regarding alleged systemic racism, you’re just stating the same old, tired, hollow left wing claim with no evidence. Just saying it’s “very widespread” and “there’s many examples” and “much worse examples can be found” is not evidence. You need to prove it especially if it’s so “widespread.” You need to give evidence or examples. YOU say it’s there, so the burden is on YOU to show it. Black criminals arrested or shot by white cops (in defense of life) is not systemic racism. That’s called policing. Are there racist cops and bad shoots? Of course, but it’s extremely rare, thank God. The vast majority of cops are not racist, and the vast majority of America is not racist. Obama is proof of that. Would you not agree? Trust me, I have searched and tried to “inform” myself, but I cannot find any systemic racism. You know why? Because there isn’t any, and there hasn’t been any for decades. Again, show me any racist laws, rules, protocols, agencies, departments, or officials that are discriminating against and/or oppressing people of color. If you can, I’ll stand right with you against it because I hate racism. But I’m not going to stand against something where there is no evidence as that would be dishonest and immoral, right?
Have you ever listened to such noted blacks as Thomas Sowell, Candace Owens, Larry Elder, Ben Carson, or Shelby Steele? These highly educated black people also say there is no systemic racism. Do you think they are lying?
Regarding Obama, I think you’re misunderstanding my comment.
Let me rephrase –
The majority of those WHO VOTED FOR Obama – the vast majority – were white people. That is a fact.
Ok, first of all, you said “a black man was recently elected President of the United States TWICE by a majority of white people.”, not that the majority of people who voted for him were white. Your implication was that the majority of white people couldn’t possibly be racist if they voted for a black man for president. But you were lying about that, so your point was not made about whether white people are racist or not. But this idea is just the political equivalent of “I have a black friend, I couldn’t be racist!”, so I don’t put much stock in it anyways. You made a false claim, I called you out on it. Trying to say that you actually meant that the majority of Obama voters were white is not the same thing, but again, splitting hairs over a silly way to claim racism doesn’t exist.
But if you aren’t aware of how black people don’t have equal opportunity, equal representation, or equal treatment under the law, I can show you some pretty obvious data points that prove it. Just read this article about systemic inequality and tell me with a straight face that it isn’t significantly harder to be black in America: https://www.usatoday.com/in-depth/news/2020/06/18/12-charts-racial-disparities-persist-across-wealth-health-and-beyond/3201129001/
Also, here’s some data around how black people are stopped by police more, arrested more often, sentenced harsher, and suffer more from having a criminal record after getting out of jail: https://www.prisonpolicy.org/blog/2020/07/27/disparities/
According to 2018 FBI crime stats, blacks committed 52% of homicides. How do you explain that statistic?
You should really read your statistics better. According to the FBI 52% of homicide VICTIMS were black in 2018, not offenders. About 39% of offenders were black. As for how to explain this? It doesn’t somehow disprove that black people are treated unfairly or don’t have less opportunities. Frankly I think that it is a combination of black people in poor neighborhoods being forced into crime to survive, and the well documented statistics around black people being arrested and charged at higher rates when compared to whites for committing the same crimes. I gave you statistics around these shown trends in previous posts, so I won’t repost those. But how would you explain the higher rates of black criminal conviction?
My mistake…..in looking at the chart for FBI’s Expanded Homicide Data Table 6 – Murders in 2018, 48% were committed by blacks. Then if you factor in a city like Chicago or Baltimore where the vast majority of black on black shootings go unsolved the real stat would be much higher.
Sorry….continue with your excuses for this horrifying statistic. Your argument that blacks are charged for murders at a higher rate is quite amusing….either the person killed someone or they didn’t.
“But how would you explain the higher rates of black criminal conviction?” You mean relative to population? Blacks make up about 13% of the population yet 48% of the murder convictions. So by default of committing more than 13% of the murders would increase the conviction rate relative to population.
It’s in my kids school district according to the superintendent…..just not sure where as they have done nothing to end it since acknowledging it’s existence 4 months ago.
It’s akin to trying to identify witchery….it exists because you say it does and denials don’t matter because you believe it regardless of any actual evidence.
Show me a specific police department and their specific written policy that allows for race to be used in policing practices.
No question there are racists out there……and for sure there needs to be police reform. But the “systemic” part is just like witchery….impossible to disprove…or prove.
Just in case you or anyone reading this doesn’t know how to use google and wants to know the demographics of the 2008 and 2012 elections, regarding the fact that a majority of white people DID NOT in fact vote for Obama either time, here you go…

Never ceases to amaze me how hard progressives have to look to find racism these days. If you’re looking for true, institutional racism, go back to the 50’s and 60’s.
Every time we’re shown examples of racism now, it’s usually accompanying some type of criminal behavior.
Yup, America is so racist that we elected a black man as POTUS – twice!
The very word “racist” has lost all relevance due to overuse, misuse and just plain abuse.
Yup. Just like the word “hate.”
Reading this article, in Michigan, about a small town I have only ever driven through once, it struck me as exceptionally well-written. As such, it described what is readily recognizable as attitudes on racism that are widely held as satisfactory because they’ve existed for so long. Such attitudes are widely considered the norm and therefore acceptable.
The author’s reference to Kendi’s comments about “non-racist” and “actively anti-racist” were very helpful in understanding the actions of various Healdsburg players. I’m 75, white, and have never been “racist”. I have always been “passively anti-racist”. But I have never been “actively anti-racist”. I have always been thankful for the actively anti-racist contributions made by others in the MLK era. I have always been thankful that they addressed the blatantly unjust behavior in America’s past and that such problems would thereby, over time, be rectified. But that hasn’t happened.
Instead, America moved forward a tad and became passively satisfied with a somewhat less repugnant form of racism. The recent demonstrations have focused my attention to how little we’ve done to resolve the problem over the past 50 years. I can’t condemn combative attitudes of today’s demonstrators when I realize that anything less condones the indifference of our last half century. I agree with Kendi’s assertion that one either confronts racial inequities, actively, as an “anti-racist”, or allows racial inequities to persevere, as a “racist”.
“There is no in-between safe space of ‘not racist.’”
Clever how the left is now labelling those that have never been racist, racist. So, either get on board with what we say is the new definition or you are a racist.
It is an incredibly smart move by the left because the vast majority of the population isn’t racist and would be horrified to be accused of being one…so they will not resist the new definition out of fear of being labeled.
It echoes one of the trademarks of fascism.
Very well said. If you remember the racism and anti- police demonstrations started with the Obama administration and encouraged by Maxine Waters……” get into their faces..”.
The descent Democrats of today are mute to the vitriolic conduct by the radical left because they do not want to be criticized as being pro-Trump . The herd affect?
Respectfully, I disagree. It doesn’t echo fascism, it is fascism in practice!
David Bell:
Perhaps the Left is merely perceptive at recognizing those who aren’t perceptive enough to recognize they’re racist, . . . or who just set abysmal standards for themselves about avoiding racism.
But just so I’m really savvy about the latest definitions, why don’t you explain how suggesting someone should focus on their own attitudes about race (1) makes one racist and (2) toward whom such racism is directed.
Funny….progressives are perceptive but others are not? Another label that is difficult to refute. Is the standard similar to a “micro-agression”…..still trying to figure that one out given that a sideways look is an example of one. But I guess progressives are just more sensitive.
The statement, “if one is not anti-racist and not merely “not racist” makes one a racist”” is the dumbest assumption based on a lack of facts I have ever heard.
I know disagreeing with you upsets your “safe space” but don’t project your racism on me because you feel guilty. You don’t know me and to label me a racist because I don’t buy into you definition of anti-racist is a false equivalence fallacy.
Funny, I’ve never noticed that progressives were perceptive. They’ve always seemed to simply be over-infatuated with ideals but lacking in perception in much the way trumprubes are lacking in both. Thank you for reinforcing that with your pointless blabber.
Ah….dismiss my argument as “pointless blabber” and accuse me of being a Trump supporter.
You started off this thread sounding quite intelligent but misguided. Alas, your true character has been revealed.
Racism as defined by the race peddling left. Will share
David Bell:
Yup, it’s jus’ terrible how one has to lower the discussion level to address those only offering juvenile trash talk. I hastily posted my original comment in the hope that a perceptive article would attract perceptive comments of value. Your immediate potshot established your credibility for that at zero. I’m not interested in the fascinating details of your back story, just in benefitting from the useful thought of someone actually attempting a useful response.
Please do yourself a favor and balance the utter BS from Kendi with actual truth from such noted blacks as Thomas Sowell, Candace Owens, Larry Elder, Ben Carson, and Shelby Steele. The immortal words of MLK regarding personal responsibility and content of character as well as interviews with notable blacks like Denzel Washington about the black “struggle” should also provide you with some truth.
Swing away, Merrill:
Thank you for posting the laundry list of authorities you consider issuers of the real “truth” about racism. I believe you meant to say “This is the unrepresentative group of Blacks whom I, as a white conservative, find supportive of my indifference toward racism.” It’s to be expected that Blacks who didn’t experience the same adverse effects of discrimination that other Blacks routinely do will be less inclined to be concerned about racism. I like oreo cookies, but not that kind.
There is some information you’d perform a service by supplying:
(a) Were the two professors who gave Thomas Sowell support in gaining his admittance to Harvard in the mid-1950s liberals or conservatives? Did they believe Blacks of that time needed no special assistance to get the same opportunities as Whites?
(b) For other Blacks of comparable ability who did not enjoy GI Bill educational benefits as a result of being drafted, what percentage attended southern colleges at that time?
(c) Does Sowell’s criticism of Affirmative Action indicate that he doesn’t believe racism is a problem that needs to be addressed, or (b) that he merely believes it has been ineffective in addressing what should be addressed? If the latter, what steps does he recommend for addressing it?
The left keeps stoking the flames of racism, not lessen it. The precipitation of this up rise was started with the Obama administration. Mrs. Obama complained she was not comfortable living in the white house because it was built by slaves. What a hell of a statement from an alleged first lady of our country, no class what so ever. Sad.
Correct. BO was supposed to be the great unifier, and yet he proved to be nothing but a great divider. And Michelle is just as bad.
El Conquistador:
Your bloviation that merely consisted of taking shots at the Left offered no points of substance about this article. Gripes about how it’s favoritism to ensure equal treatment of another race is typical of racists.
John Ash is an extraordinary talent and a really nice guy.

I as other posts had found the food creative, delicious. When friends visiting out of town with Southeast Asian heritage and knowledge of food when taken there, were impressed by the food and menu. I am curious about the landlords of these restaurant properties, and their apparent lack of concern for encouraging downtown businesses to stay open under such circumstances (are there tax benefits to keep the spaces closed ?). From my awareness these property owners do not appear to do much to help their restaurant tenants and other stores stay afloat- so we seem to be heading to many closed store fronts. Just as i started to find hope that down town Santa Rosa was becoming attractive to spend time in; some where to show off to my out of town visitors it is in danger of deterioration. What is our Santa Rosa local government doing about helping businesses and downtown remain vibrant; encourage landlord responsibility? Are we all going to have to be going back to downtown Petaluma for downtown vibrancy?
When will the new location be up and running?
And i thought this issue was basically affecting the big cities like San Francisco, where i live. Sorry to hear about this happening in Sonoma County. So many places here have been closed since March and many won’t be able to reopen due to the progressive fiscally incompetent buffoons running this former gem into the ground and draconian laws affecting small business here in the former jewel of California.. San Francisco now known as the ‘doo doo’ capital of America has been on a downward spiral sad to say.. Please don’t allow Sonoma County and Santa Rosa, Petaluma, Sebastopol etc. to become an unaffordable third world toilet like San Francisco has become over the last 28 years or so. with exploding, crime and homeless tent encampments, unaffordable costs of living and crumbling infrastructure And yes, i was born here and can’t wait to leave this overpriced, unaffordable third world dump hopefully for Sonoma County in the near future. Like a lot of others, I ‘m doing some personal reassessment of what’s important and thinking of making some changes for the better.. As an award winning home vintner ( the Sonoma County Harvest Fair and Marin County Fair medals and ribbons respectively) I ‘m hoping to get into the wine industry, and maybe this is a chance for me to reinvent myself, like so many people have been doing over the last 7 or so months and continue doing.
What a shame to lose them in Kenwood. Thank you Dr. Mase and PG&E…..
Can’t wait to take out!
Full bar at Mi Ranchita?
After 5 years I stop my last project and I never felt this fantastic … I began functioning from my home , above a site I discovered on-line, For a couple hrs daily, and that I make considerably greater than that I did in my previous job… My last month pay was for 9000 dollars… The best thing about this work is the free time I got for my loved ones. Here is what I do qxg.ca/MTYwMjgzMTY5Njc3Nw
Another win for Mase. Before she’s finished, every restaurant and bar in Santa Rosa will be finished…. It’s time to get rid of Mase!!!!!!!!!!!
My favorite restaurant, hands down. Maybe after C19 they can resume indoor dining.
Still really miss Whole Pie,but excited to hear about this opening in that place.
I have been a customer almost since they opened. I think this is a great idea (5 minutes drive vs 20), and the take-out-only approach is wise by drastically reducing their overhead!
Bollywood was a lovely restaurant and I will miss its food, its ambiance, and its service. It was my favorite place to bring people in the “Before Times.” Just a week ago we went there for cocktails and nibbles, and the Indira G&T was so good and so pretty I posted it to Instagram. The smoked lamb shank (offered in “Before Times”) was amazing. Even classics such as palak paneer were elevated by their preparation–it inspired me to make my own paneer! As for cost, it was quite reasonable for the quality. I believe the Chandi family has nine lives and we’ll see more from them. I also don’t think Beer Baron competed with Bollywood — very different focus.
I went there once and I think they ignored me and didn’t bring my food for more than half an hour, even though they had literally two items on the menu. I finally just left.
Get ready for more business closures if Biden and Harris are elected in November.
Yeah, they have done a terrible job governing our country. Glad to see you put that together.
Yup, they’ve actually not done anything good for people and businesses in their long political careers. So, together they are a disaster.

The Chandi’s are a brave, entrepreneurial family engaged in finding what works to enhance the SR downtown and the community at large with interesting places for us to gather. They work long hours, employ hundreds of people and pay sizable taxes. Sonu and his family deserve credit beyond words even if some of their ventures don’t work out. To paraphrase president Teddy Roosevelt, they will never be counted amongst those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat. Thank goodness for their spirit, and the spirit of all who put themselves on the line everyday trying to create something of value. We are lucky to have them.
Brave or not too smart?
1 year ago I decided to leave my last job and I am so happy today … I started freelancing from my home , above a website I stumbled upon online, For a few hrs daily, and I make considerably greater than that I did in my previous occupation… Last pay I got was for $9k… The very best thing about this work is that now I have more spare time with my kids. This is precisely what I do…… bay25.com
I’ve never understood why Chandi has so many restaurants that compete with one another–e.g. in down town Santa Rosa.
One of the worst meals I have ever had in my long life. Noisy, mediocre service and poor value. Won’t be missed.
Seems like he opens and closes many restaurants.
overpriced and not very good food will put you out of business too.
childrens portions
After 5 years I chose to stop my last work and it changed my entire life … I began to function online, for a company I found online, For a few hrs per day, and I make substantially more than that I did in my previous job… Last payment I obtained was for Nine thousand dollars… Amazing thing about this work is that today I have more free time for my household . Consider it, what I really do… qxg.ca/MTYwMjgzMTY5Njc3Nw

Please don’t show delicious looking food in restaurant settings.
Show the food in take out boxes and tell readers which survive best being delivered or picked up and driven home.
Phenomenal article – I’m reading this in 2020 because a long-ago classmate and her husband lost their house in one of the California fires. Your article is sensitive and informative and as many important tips about what not to do as to do. I like to think I know a decent amount about a decent number of things at 64 but I learned from every point you made. Thank you and best of luck.
What can the holders of gift certificates for the restaurant expect? We were scheduled to dine last May but our reservation was cancelled due to Covid. We were looking for a future date to dine and now they are gone.
Wow, it’s all about YOU worrying about your freebie meal. I’ve worked in hospitality for many years, and have found that those eating for free on gift certs, or corporate accts are the worst tippers, and most difficult to please. They think rich people are supposed to be difficult to show how important they are. Clueless grifters.
Fred, what l am saying here is the loss of Meadowood has affected everyone, even those of us on the lower rungs of the middle class. I could never afford to eat there had it not been for the generosity of my hard working children. I understand the policy of tipping and have always been generous when I have been well served. When treated with respect and not looked down upon, any server would be happy with the tips I leave .
I stand corrected in your case.
Fred and David, I just want to a say that the disagreement and resolve of this conversation gives me hope for this world. You don’t see much of this these days In comment sections and both of you have your valid feelings and you were able to in the end see each others points and move on in a civil respectable manner. Keep being you!
MATT VILLANO … Slides 6-9 have the following caption “Wildfire photographer Matthew Henderson captures the devastation of the Kincade fire in Windsor, California, on Oct. 30, 2020. ” I mean I know Matt Henderson is good…… but I never knew he was a time traveler too!!
I was surprised that Matanzas doesn’t get mentioned in an article like this. I’m sure the winemaker is Latina, and maybe even one of the first to breakthrough? Or has she moved on? Anyway, just a thought.
Heather, tell Dr. Mase to open the bars and indoor seating for restaurants. Long overdue!!!! Thank you….
Fantastic suggestions, from someone who survived the Tubbs fire.
Fandee’s in Sebastopol Fried Chicken is finger Suckin Good ! With a Bowl of French Onion Soup !
Plural: “tamales”. Singular: “tamal”. There is no such thing as a “tamale”.
In English, tamale is acceptable. I do understand that tamal and tamales is more accurate.
My place of employment (disclaimer), Pengrove Market), has been doing Fryday Fried Chicken family meals with all the classic sides for weeks now. Just call and place your order for pick up!
Charlie Hustle sandwich at Jam’s Joy Bungalow. No chance any of the fried chicken sandwiches you listed are better than this one. It’s criminal that this one isn’t on the list.
Yes, but how woke is the resort? Everything must be about social justice!
6.4 million in fines by the water quality board. And this slimeball ROBERT S. GREEN wants to “re-negotiate” the terms of his permit.
Put a lien on the property and sue the hell out of the SoCal scumbag
1 yr past I abandoned my workplace project and I am quite happy now… I began working from comfort of my house , over a website I stumbled upon online, For a couple hrs per day, and I make substantially more than that I did in my previous office job… Check I got for last month was for 9 thousand bucks… The very best thing concerning this job is that today I’ve more time period for my own kids. Look at it, exactly what I do… bay25.com
Authentic Pasta Carbonara
Gus’s Grill served this btw. It was great, but they closed in February. They seen what was coming.
I wish her luck in the Wine business but she has her work cut out for them since with all the fires and now pandemic it is a different world than just 5 years ago when she made her first vintage. Again good luck!
What a coinkydink! Just ate there last night. “Tamale people, thoughout the land,” I think Bob Dylan said… best tamale ever (pollo con mole rojo)!!
No! Con SESOS ! SI’?
QR codes taped on the tables were the norm at the restaurants in Bend, OR. No menus necessary.
I just attempted to place an order for pick-up and apparently they still charge you a 19% service charge even though you’re not even eating there… Hey, Barndiva, news flash, no one there is even serving me! I am not using your texting service, your table, chairs, disposable menu, I’m not even using a single drop of your hand sanitizer so why would you charge people who are simply picking up their own food and leaving a “service charge”?! Absolutely ridiculous and makes no sense. I am not paying you a 19% service charge for a salad that is 1 fig and one leaf of lettuce cut up to look like it’s more food. I used to like Barndiva but they are basically up-charging everyone due to a pandemic which seems pretty greedy. Just FYI, the bill comes to just under $50 for two chicken sandwiches due to the “service charge”, what a joke….
That’s what the IRS taxes them on. A 20% tip. You are barking up the wrong tree.
IRS does not tax the restaurant 20% for takeout.

the Popeyes chicken sandwich is $3.99
Larrupin near Trinidad, California, up in Humboldt County is the best experience I’ve had in the COVID era. They took all of the precautions necessary for a safe outdoor dining meal and turned those precautions into a higher-end experience! No spritzing of hand sanitizer or temp-checks (not necessary because you never are near another person the entire time). They have 2 seatings per night: a 5 pm set and a 7 pm set and that’s it. You must give them your order by phone at least a hour before your reservation time – including wine choice. Upon arrival – You wait outside on socially distanced chairs and they set wine
