Adobe Road Winery: The winery’s tasting room at the Great Petaluma Mill is small and cozy, although it’s about to get much bigger and fancier, at a new location, if CEO Kevin Buckler’s plans come to fruition. The professional race car driver and team owner recently won approval to move forward on construction of a 5,000-case winery, tasting room, motorsports gallery and event space on the riverfront. Until the new center is completed — and it could take a few years — wine buffs can continue to sample Adobe Road’s range of wines (mainly Bordeaux varieties), made from Sonoma County and Napa Valley grapes, at the Great Petaluma Mill. 6 Petaluma Blvd. North, Suite 1A, adoberoadwines.com. Barber Cellars: Located in the Hotel Petaluma, Mike and Lorraine Barber’s quaint space offers single-vineyard wines (Zinfandel, Sangiovese and Chardonnay, to name a few) produced from Sonoma County vineyards, along with cheese plates and cheese-centric sandwiches and salads. The tasting fee is a very reasonable $10 (waived with purchase). 112 Washington St., barbercellars.com. (Photo by Rebecca Chotkowski)

Incavo Wine Lounge and Collective: As both a wine and beer tasting venue, Incavo specializes in hard-to-find wines and brews from small producers, with occasional live music and food options provided by nearby Central Market restaurant. 100 Petaluma Blvd. North, incavowine.com. (Courtesy photo)

La Dolce Vita Wine Lounge: Is it a wine bar? A restaurant? It’s both, and a visit here is likely to enhance one’s sweet life. Forty or so wines by the taste, half-carafe and bottle are usually on hand, chosen by owner Sahar Gharai, with pizzas, pastas and other fare also on the menu. 151 Petaluma Blvd. South, ldvwine.com. Sonoma Portworks: Bill and Caryn Reading produce Port-style fortified wines, some with chocolate and hazelnut essences, plus grappas and sherries, at the Foundry Wharf. The tasting room is there, too, and it’s an after-dinner-wine-lover’s haven. Remarkably, tastings are free. Who offers that anymore? 613 Second St., portworks.com. (Courtesy photo)

Vine & Barrel: This is more of a traditional wine retail shop, stocked with 600-plus local and international wines. On weekends, the 26-seat wine and tapas bar opens and a lively crowd settles in. Proprietor Jason Jenkins’ expertise is in sourcing and selling Pinot Noirs and Zinfandels, and in particular, wines from the 1-year-old Petaluma Gap AVA. 113 Petaluma Blvd. North, vineandbarrel.com.
