Ozzie’s Coming Back to Life?

Rincon Valley burger spot will reopen.

Ozzie’s Grill in Rincon Valley may soon come back to life.

Two former fans, Scott Diaz and Andrew Simontacchi, purchased the grill in the Montecito Center from former owner Jeff Gonsalves with plans to  reopen the restaurant mid-February, 2012. They’ve taken the last few months to rehab the 30-year-old space — in need of a new drainage line — with new flooring, furniture, a power cleaning and a other updates. But the vibe, said Diaz, and the name will remain.

“The place is going to look good. We’re keeping the tradition and the menu, but adding a few new specialties.”

Gonsalves, the second owner of the restaurant, closed it in Nov. 2011.

(Thanks BiteClubbers, for the tip!!)

  1. Can’t wait! Has anyone heard an updated ETA of when it will reopen. Drove by a week or two ago and it looked clean, but very empty….

  5. Awesome news! I just hope they don’t jack the prices up either. Ozzie’s was a great, simple burger (no goat cheese or foie gras “soco’ crap). If they keep it the same and add some new stuff they’ll do just fine.

  7. Biteclub:

That is such an unprofessional response to Michelle.

A simple acknowledgement and correction of an error on your part would have been appropriate.

Perhaps you should just change your moniker to Biteme and be done with it.

    1. Get a sense of humor Jeff! It was hilarious and not without merit! I’m so tired of all the worthless ass hats that troll the PD just waiting to pick; they are more than overdue to get knocked off of their high horses.

  9. Wow…can’t wait until FEBRUARY 2011 for this place to reopen! Seriously, PD (Bite Club) get an Editor, or at least a Journalist with some JC English 101.

    1. Oh, you anal retentives are so adorable. You’re right, I meant 2012. I guess I was too busy dusting off my correspondent school degree in automotive engineering to notice.

PS. You’re an ass hat. Did I spell that right?

    2. Ah, yes. Because not having a proper education in the English language is CLEARLY the culprit for mistaking one number for another. More importantly: do you feel better, Michelle? Righting all the wrongs and what not- you truly are an asshat….whoa! I meant to say asset. An ASSET to society. Whoops!

  10. Right on! Ozzies is a good burger joint in a neighborhood that’s doing great without a chain burger place.

But I also recall eating at that location in 1974, and it wasn’t new then, so maybe the space is cloer to forty years old than the reported 30.

  12. I’m so excited to hear this, me and my family have been customers for years and was sad to hear they were closing. So we definitely had to be part of history by eating there on closing day.
