Hold onto your shortstack. The wildly popular breakfast, brunch and lunchery, Dierk’s Parkside Cafe in Santa Rosa, will be opening a second location in April.
Owner Mark Dierkhising tells BiteClub he’ll be opening Dierk’s Midtown Cafe at the former Midtown Cafe (1422 Fourth Street) this spring. The vibe and the menu will feel familiar to regulars of Dierkhising’s Santa Rosa Avenue location with breakfast, lunch and brunch. And speaking of brunch, it will be served all day.
What will change are some lunch additions in the sandwich and salad department, but the menu’s still a work in progress.
Mark’s brother, Roger (also a chef) will manage daily operations at the new location.
Dierk’s Parkside is one of only 2 decent restaurants in all of Santa Rosa that meets my expectations.
The others are just hash joints that don’t know a fork from a teaspoon. Lousy silverware, same old eggs and bacon from SYSCO’s truck, putrid coffee and snarly waitresses, all overcharging for what they serve.
Dierk’s and Jeffrey’s Hillside are the best.
I love Dierk’s Parkside Cafe. I have eaten there at least two dozen times since they opened and have never been disappointed. Mark and his staff are completely simpatico, the food is wonderful, and there is always an interesting mix of customers. I just wish they would open a restaurant in Sebastopol! Love you!
Let us hope he chooses a different coffee… the Peerless that he serves at his other location is AWFUL.
I used to go his restaurant often when it first opened and it was really good. That was when he was working the grill. Now it is just another diner with no special flair. For the prices there, you need that special flair! Good luck with the new spot, but I’ll pass on it.
I am SO EXCITED!!!! This is JUST what that location needed! Hooray!!!!!!
And you just can’t hide it?

I would not eat there if it were free!!
We used to go to Dierk’s Parkside every few weekends until one day when the owner insisted we (myself, my wife son and a friend) leave.
Why?? My son who is autistic screamed 2 times. I calmed my son down, but over came the owner and said we had to go because people were leaving due to our disturbance.
Well I was near to, and facing the door and in the short time this incident took place I saw no one leave.
I tried explaining to him my son was autistic, and his sarcastic response was “OH I have that too”!! I wish words existed to explain how badly he made us feel and he obviously has no idea what Autism is!!
Unless you like restaurants that DISCRIMINATE against DISABLED KIDS, stay away!!
That is unacceptable! I’m sorry you and your family went through that!
A screaming child is unacceptable in a restaurant- abled, disabled, doesn’t matter- if you have a kid who will be a nuisance during a meal, COOK AT HOME. A restaurant is a place where adults pay hard-earned money to enjoy good food in a nice environment.
You didn’t get kicked out of the restaurant because your son is autistic. You were asked to leave because you expect everyone else to deal with a screaming child. That is incredibly selfish behavior. You badmouthing Dierk’s online just makes you look like a selfish idiot.
Hummmm, I think your statement proves your the idiot.
I did not “Badmouth” Deriks, I told the truth about getting kicked out after my son made an outburst, then the owner LIED to me about people leaving and HE CLAIMED he was AUTISTIC, both huge lies.
If he could have handled it calmly with out lying I would be a loyal customer, but he acted as I said, others can judge.
I had a guest with me that can back up my story.
As for being an idiot, you have proven by your own words to be one.
You want quiet childless restaurants?? Shop around there are lots, but I thought it was a “Family” place.
Okay, this ends here. If you have a problem with service or other issues, you need to bring it up with the owner. I can’t verify if it happened or didn’t, or what the situation surrounding the incident was.
I know that in MY experience, Mark is a very compassionate and understanding individual.
It’s unfortunate if a disabled child was asked to leave a restaurant. However, restaurants do have the right to ask patrons to leave if they are causing a disturbance.
Again, the best thing to do is to talk to the owner. Not air it on a comment board anonymously.
Now isn’t this the place where the Humble Pie/Superburger folks have been running a dinner pop-up? Is that still going on? And if so, will it continue after Dierk takes over b’fast and lunch service?

Will they be able to clone Varena? She is one of the best waitresses ever. She makes a wonderful meal that much more special.

FANTASTIC! Too bad he doesn’t open for dinner at one of them!
He does seem to have a magic touch. From what I know, Mark kind of already did the whole insane chef life with long hours into the night. The magic of Dierk’s Parkside was his ability (much life Jeffrey Madura) to have a few daylight hours with family.
Old chefs never die…they just open breakfast spots. 🙂
Really good news!
