March 1-31: Women and the Search for Wisdom, Petaluma Historical Library and Museum, Petaluma: The works of over 30 artists from around the world grace the walls of the Petaluma Historical Library and Museum in celebration of feminine power, beauty and wisdom. Curated by Kayleen Asbo and Nancy Castille, works include interpretations of Mary, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Mary Magdalene, Salome, Eve, and Hildegarde von Bingen. The exhibition is paired with lectures, poetry readings, social events and musical performances. March 5-March 30: Women's History Month Film Series at various Sonoma County Library locations: The Sonoma County Library celebrates Women's History Month with a film series focused on stories of inspiring women. Libraries throughout the county will show three free movies: Iron Jawed Angels, a historical drama about the women's suffrage movement starring Hilary Swank and Frances O'Connor; Queen of Katwe, a biopic about Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi; and Wonder Woman, the story of the iconic superhero. March 8: First Wave: Women in Sonoma County Politics, Sonoma State University Library, Rohnert Park: In 2013, Petaluma-based Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey announced that her congressional papers would be donated to Sonoma State University for research purposes. At this event, Woolsey will take the stage, along with Windsor Town Council Member Deb Fudge and Petaluma City Councilor Teresa Barrett, for a conversation about Sonoma County women's roles in local, state and national politics. March 14: History of Women at SJRC: By the Numbers at Santa Rosa Junior College, Santa Rosa: Explore the fascinating history of women as students, instructors, administrators, and trustees at Santa Rosa Junior College, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. The lecture is presented by SRJC Director of Institutional Research, Dr. KC Greaney, who specializes in evaluating and reporting data in order to inform the college's planning process, policy formation, decision making and accountability. March 15: Recognizing 38 Years of Operation: The National Women's History Project, Museums of Sonoma County, Santa Rosa: This year marks the 40th anniversary of Women's History Week, which was created in Sonoma County and led to the creation of National Women's History Month. To celebrate, Molly Murphy MacGregor, who helped kickstart the celebration as a school teacher in Santa Rosa, will present the history of the National Women's History Project, which she founded with the mission of writing women back into history. March 17: Books and Bubbles at Breathless Wines, Healdsburg: Sip bubbles at Breathless Wines while celebrating two new book releases by local bestselling authors Patricia V. Davis (Secret Spice of Life Series) and Rebecca Rosenburg ("The Secret Life of Mrs. London"). The two authors will discuss their new books and women's history, followed by a book signing. Students from Worth Our Weight will serve small bites. There will also be a bit of magic from Frank Balzerak and an art deco-themed costume contest (to go with the books' themes). March 20: Women in Conversation featuring Ashley Judd, Lindsay Meyer and Adama Iwu at the Luther Burbank Center, Santa Rosa: The Sonoma County Women in Conversation series continues. This month, it will showcase the stories of three women who helped launch the #MeToo movement: actor Ashley Judd, lobbyist Adama Iwu, and entrepreneur Lindsay Meyer. These three women were on the cover of TIME Magazine's 2017 Person of the Year issue for their work in exposing and denouncing sexual harassment and assault.
