SR Cattlemen’s Eyeing RP Location

Montgomery Village location's future in being decided

Longtime Montgomery Village tenants, Cattlemen’s, are eyeing the former Latitude restaurant space in Rohnert Park. But reports that they’re packing up their bean buckets in Santa Rosa and moving southward are premature, according to restaurant management.

Last week the Community Voice reported that a deal had been struck and suggested the steakhouse would relocate to the long-shuttered location just off Highway 101. Meaning the Santa Rosa location would hang up its stirrups permanently.

And while Santa Rosa steakhouse manager Danny Kimpton said the restaurant had been looking at the Rohnert Park location, leasing negotiations between Cattlemen’s and Codding management are still in the works. “We were looking at other options,” said Kimpton, “and will be looking at both leases” before making a final decision about the restaurant’s future in the coming weeks.

“We’ve been a part of community for 40 years now,” he added, “but right now we’re just not sure where we’re at.”

Are you a Cattlemen’s fan? Or not so much…

  1. Hell no will not eat there. Their steaks are a joke, and use MSG. They got to big and lost the good stuff when they got to big to fast.

  3. Cattlemen’s is pedestrian. They’re ultimately no better than the old Hunter’s in Santa Rosa was, and that was pedestrian too. The old Western Boot in Healdsburg was better than Cattlemen’s, but again that’s not saying so much. It continues to amaze me that Sonoma County doesn’t have better steak houses than they do. Starks is probably the only decent place. Oh well…

  5. I endorse bad food leaving Santa Rosa. Always embarrassed to call it a steak house. Thank god Starks opened up. Cattlemen’s has always been a low grade steakhouse with awful sides and service.

Why are the booths and tables always so greasy and dirty?

RP is full of lowgrade restaurants and I think Cattlemen’s would be a perfect fit.

  7. That would be a perfect spot for a PF Changs!! Have not had great experiences at Cattlemans in petaluma the last couple times..Have been going to City Limits instead…PF Changs would do very well at the Latitiude spot…

  8. I really hope they don’t move. This would be a mistake for Montgomery Village. Cattlemens is amazing and I will continue to go where ever they move, but I would like to see them stay. We’ve been coming here for years and they food and service is great. The staff has become friends of ours. Please don’t leave!

  10. Outback is right across the highway from Latitude which means direct competition for Cattlemens if they do chose to relocate. I would choose Outback over them any day because they actually listen to me when I say medium-rare. Cattlemens, stay in Monty Village- RoPo doesn’t need two steakhouses. They have enough chain restos.

  11. “Packing up their bean buckets and…moving south.” Very clever, Heather! I gave a little chuckle at this and pictured the covered wagons from the Montgomery Village signs being loaded up and hitting the trail.

  14. The location in RP would be a mistake for Cattlemen’s. The location is not very well situated for easy access.

They have been served well by their Montgomery Village location for longer than I can remeber. I think they also have a lot of customers from Oakmont (I am not one) that they will lose if they go as far away as RP. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it…

  17. As far as I am concerned they can close all the cattlemens. They use MSG in the steaks really bad not worth the migraines. And their steaks suck.

  19. I’ve hosted 2 banquets there and we eat there often. They have always done a great job for us and we LOVE their food. I agree they could use a new inside makeover. I would probably not travel to Rohnert Park if they moved.

    1. Actually, Rohnert Park does not have a majority population of hispanics if that is what you are referring to. Go check your facts. And as far as mexican restaurants go, most people that actually dine at mexican restaurants aren’t even mexicans themselves. Grow up and don’t use the press democrat as an outlet for your ignorance.

  21. we go at least once every 3 months, it’s close to us just up the street. If they do move I don’t think we will make the drive. Hope they stay in SR

  22. Last time I was at Cattlemens it was the Petaluma restaurant. They could not tell the difference between rare and medium well and the staff were rude enough to say it would be a while if I wanted to get a new steak, done rare as ordered.

  25. Relocating Cattlemen’s to RP may not be a wise move. The Petaluma location is not that far away.

Cattlemen’s has been in Santa Rosa a long long time and I would like to see them remain in the village although I do feel the restaurant could use a remodel.

  26. I’ve eaten there a few times over the years. They are pretty good. As you know, they have a location in Petaluma, albeit on the southern edge of town, and I don’t know if having one in Rohnert Park would be too close to that one.

An organization I am part of had a dinner meeting at the Montgomery Village location and, to get to the banquet room, we had to walk past the kitchen garbage area, which was not a pleasant thing to do.
