Bovolo moving

Healdsburg eatery moving to Davis Family Winery

Big news out of Healdsburg — John Stewart of Bovolo says they will be leaving their downtown Healdsburg location on the plaza this weekend. After seven years in the space, which opened inside the failed Plaza Farms, then transformed into a Copperfield’s bookstore, they’re ready to relocate.

The new Bovolo will be located inside Davis Family Vineyards’ tasting room at 52 Front St., edging the river, beginning next week (6/18/2012)

Stewart, who also owns Zazu Restaurant + Farm and Black Pig Meat with wife, Duskie Estes, says they’ll changing the format slightly, staying open for dinners in high season, and scaling back a bit during the slower winters. They’ll still have plenty of John’s salumis, along with salads and sandwiches, but pizzas may have to wait a bit, since they won’t have the pizza ovens at the new space.

Stay tuned for more details.

  1. I love all these experts giving their opinion. You won’t walk from the Plaza? Don’t. Park at a mall and get your Mickey D. Geeze. Pork Shack is amazing and wonderful and easy to get to and SEASONAL and already doing more in 3 days than bovolo did in six or seven. Let these pros do what they think is best for themselves and an appreciative public. And run, don’t walk, to a couple of the best pork and bacon sammies anywhere. xo

    1. Success is the best way to silence dissenters. They’re not hurting for biz in the new space, and in fact, from what I hear, they’re doing better than ever. Their recent dinner sold out really quickly, and they had so much interest, they could have doubled it and still not gotten everyone in.

I don’t worry for John and Duskie. They’re smart cookies.

  3. Same thing that Traverso’s did, take a perfectly popular joint and move it where no one wants to go. I’m not walking from down town to the river, wait til winter , then it will really be bad.

  5. Big Mistake.
It worked where it was. Why oh why to restaurants have to keep messing with what works? I really liked the place, brought many friends there, have raved about it for years. Dumb dumb move.

  7. How do you say death (of a restuarant) by the river? Off the beaten track, and the river crowd eats at Carl’s Jr….

  9. The plaza will miss you bovolo but you will still see most of us anyways. Excited for their next move!

Personally, not too impressed with d’angelos. Though, I wish them the very best I’m sure they will do quiet well given their location.

  11. Bovolo has great menu although a bit expensive and closed too early to get the dinner crowd. Odd location in back of bookstore probably did not help either. Not sure how being attached to a winery outside of town will work out for them. Will have to give it a try.

Pizza across the street? Where is that going to be?

    1. The Former Cafe Newstand in the Hotel Healdsburg building, the owners of the Piazza D’Angelo in Mill Valley are the new tenants.

  12. Can’t wait to see what going there. Of course there is another Pizza place opening right across the street. So much Pizza in Healdsburg nowadays.
