Love Sonoma: The name says it all. Unique housewares, drapy and romantic wearables, and other Sonoma-style finds are available here. The vibe falls somewhere between rustic (think lots of wood), playful (plenty of printed sayings on clothes), and elegant (chandeliers cap off the look). Favorites include oversized wooden prayer beads to decorate your space or a dog bed so pretty you won’t want to put it away when guests come over. Love Sonoma, 107 E. Napa St., Sonoma, 707-934-8280, love-sonoma.com

Abbot’s Passage: This little tasting room-boutique-maker space is what the next generation of retail shops should aim for. It’s intimate and stocked with finds for adventurers. The vibe is masculine and handsome, but there are some feminine touches, too, like locally made jewelry. A great place to take your guy - he’ll likely be turning over quality bags, jackets and shirts saying, “I want this.” They organize workshops too, so check their schedule. Sip wines from “storied vineyards” while learning to make candles, arrange foraged flowers and more. Abbott’s Passage, 27 East Napa St. Sonoma, abbotspassage.com

Wildeflower: This store has an ample selection of boho-styled clothing, from shoes to handbags to big sweaters. The jewelry is playful and/or modern, and houseware pieces are available, like oh-so-bohemian macrames, or driftwood emblazoned with messages for positive vibes and good living. There are lots of great gift items, too. The through-line of all Wildeflower finds is fresh, flowing and pretty. Wildeflower, 107 W Napa St, Sonoma, 707-395-4622, find on Instagram

J. James Sonoma: This clothing and home goods boutique boasts a satisfying blend between modern and 19th century. Accented by vintage treasures and antique-style graphic art, the store is so pretty the owners had to put up “no photography” signs. The clothing selection includes dramatically designed linen outfits by makers like Inizio and CP Shades. Their second space two doors down, the salon, has more clothing, unique jewelry, and spools of theatrically decorative ribbons that can be purchased by the yard. Tiddle E. Winks Vintage 5 and Dime: This sweets and novelties shop is so well merchandised it’s worth a visit just for the eye candy. There are nostalgic games and all kinds of placards, coasters and napkins with cheeky sayings. You might run into some shopper-wine tasters reading the merchandise out loud and laughing even louder. You can leave with, at least, a little bag of candy or some zany bit of miscellany like Mr. Roger’s sticky notes or a rubber chicken purse. Tiddle E. Winks, 115 E. Napa St., Sonoma, tiddleewinks.com
