Honoring loved ones who’ve gone before through dance, food, music, and gathering with the community is at the heart of Día de los Muertos celebrations all throughout Sonoma County.
Although the holiday is traditionally celebrated on Nov. 1 and 2 in Mexico where it originated, vibrant altars and artwork will be on view at the Museum of Sonoma County for its 30th annual Día de los Muertos exhibit beginning Sept. 5 and running through Nov. 29.
Events during the nearly three month exhibition include a mask-making workshop with artist Maria de Los Angeles on Sept. 6 and a free community block party from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10.
For a full list of the museum’s Día de los Muertos events, visit museumsc.org or check out one of the many community celebrations held throughout October.
