Why would you want a signed copy of a book on a project of which you disapprove? Why not donate it to the local library? Sounds like you are still somehow proudly attached to your battle against the project. It wasn’t about the fence being needed – it was a very temporary event which like a lot of installation art provided a fresh perspective of the landscape – dynamic, beautiful, social and communal. And what harm did it do? Clearly it brought joy to a lot of people. And it enhanced their appreciation of the landscape.

Well, I have never flown over the Estero although I have spent considerable energy protecting both of them. I was an F-106 Delta Dart driver back in the seventies.

Art is never a waste of time or money.

The only point I take issue with is “waste of resources”. Art is something that humans do naturally. Art is no more a waste of resources than breathing is.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and some people’s taste is all in their mouths. Not saying this is in your case, left Unsaid.
